Grapevine Middle School
Pony Band
December 4, 2020
Dear GMS Pony Band Families,
Advanced Band Recording Session (7th/8th Grade) Due to basketball games and cross country meets next week, we cannot hold our Advanced Band sectionals at the previous times. We have decided we will have an after school rehearsal in the Cafeteria next Friday from 3:30-5:00pm. Virtual learners can join us as soon as they finish 8th period by entering the back of the school near the cafeteria doors. This will also be a recording session to send out to all our parents before break. The students voted in class today and yesterday on the day/time and are VERY excited about it, and of course, we will be feeding them pizza at 5:00pm! Unfortunately, WebEx will not be available for the recording session but we certainly allow our virtual learners to attend. Originally, we had hoped to create a video to send out, but the software program will not work for the Christmas music we are performing. This is why we are holding this recording session. HEPA filters will be in place and every one will remain 6 feet apart. Sanitizer Misters will be administered as well. Masks will be worn when students are not playing their instruments and we will take every safety precaution necessary. Dismissal will be staggered. This will serve as their Semester Exam. You may email Mrs. Gish if you have any questions.
Beginner Band Recording Project (6th Grade) Students have received a link in their email (or will receive one on Monday) to upload a video of their individualized class song. We will share the completed video project in Canvas so students may share their virtual performance with you. This is our first time doing this and have found that it works ok for smaller groups (fingers crossed). It may be a little stressful for us, but we want to showcase them in some capacity to show you their hard work in class! If all else fails, we will ask each student to perform their class song for you in a live setting at home. This will serve as their Semester Exam.
ALL STUDENTS: It is imperative that all students practice every day. They need a lot of repetition and we do not want to lose the momentum, so please remind your student to keep up with their practice routine (posted in Canvas modules).
As always, it is an honor to be your student's band director!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gish, Mr. Holmes & Mr. Drewry
