Band Buzz: September 5, 2021
Falcon Band & Color Guard
From Your Booster President
Full uniforms will be worn starting on Sept. 17th (4th game) and plumes will be needed. Many thanks to Norma Eastham who will be the "Queen of the Plume Brigade!" Now is the time to make sure your uniform is ready to go. Read further for a message from the uniform coordinator. We are now using props! Thanks to all the extra volunteers who helped at Friday's game (especially the parents that loaded the props after the show). You made the loading crew very happy!

Key Event # 1: Uniforms
Uniform Room Will Be Open on Wed, Sept. 8th.
Full Band Uniforms will be worn starting on September 17th (Game #4). Almost all students received a uniform a few weeks ago and all uniforms will be kept at home. Please take a look at your uniform one more time to make sure that it is NOT crumpled on the floor, that it fits, and that it does not have any rips, missing buttons, etc.
The uniform room will be open on Wednesday, September 8th from 2:40 pm to 3:30 pm. If you are a NEW student to marching band and/or have not received a uniform, please stop by during that time to get a uniform issued to you. If you find that your uniform is in need of repair or does not fit, bring it to school that day to get it repaired OR to get a new uniform assignment. Also, let me know if you have any questions.

Key Event #2
Join Us for Game #3 This Friday in Texas City
Hope you can join us this Friday for our 2nd of three away games. We are lucky that these first two games are not THAT far away to be able to attend. If you don’t want the hassle of trying to figure out how to get there and where to park, then join us as a chaperone on the bus! Chaperones who ride the bus go directly from the bus to the stands with the students and do not need to buy a ticket!
As always, we need chaperones to help with game meals at the HS, chaperones to ride the buses, chaperones to help fill water jugs in the stands, chaperones to help with the halftime action team (HAT), chaperones to help with wash cloths after the show, and other areas that arise. Look for my next email and Jotform to sign up. You might not know your schedule until later in the week. If you misplace my email, then you can always go to the website and the current Jotform posted there on the home page: clhsband.org.
As always, Thank You Chaperones! You really do make a difference!

Mattress Fundraiser is TWO Weeks Away!
Thanks to Ben Marsh of Custom Fundraising Solutions for coming to our last booster meeting and then also holding a ZOOM meeting the following week. Between these two meetings, we had 47 adults in attendance which means that we will receive a check for $235 just for attending this meeting!
Ben explained what this fundraiser is all about. Our band can make a lot of money with minimal effort! About 10% of the population at any given time is currently thinking about buying a mattress. There could be SOME in the band/orchestra who might be in the market for a mattress. For the rest of us, our job is to talk to our friends, neighbors, etc. in person and on social media to get the word out that we are having a sale and to get them in the door. Ben also explained that he does not have overhead costs associated with having a store and warehouse. As a result, he can offer us a great percentage of the sales. To reach our goal of $10K, all we have to do is to get 50 people to buy a mattress from our sale! He also wanted us to know they are bilingual, have great customer service, and will “haul off” old mattresses without a fee.
Ben made signs for us and some were taken home at our booster meeting. On September 7th (Tuesday), Ben will meet with the band and color guard students during each period of the school day. Don’t be surprised if your student brings home a sign! Place it in your yard (if allowed by your HOA) The countdown is on! This event is now only 2-weeks away…talk to everyone you can think of! If your student did not bring home a sign and you would like one, then contact Mr. Pearce.
Watch Out for a Busy Week!!
The week of September 13th will be a busy week! Monday and Tuesday are “normal.” Then on Wednesday, there will be a rehearsal at Challenger Columbia Stadium from 5-8 pm (this replaces the usual 3:30 to 6 pm rehearsal). Friday we are back at Challenger Columbia stadium for Game #4 and we are the home team. Saturday is the Mattress Fundraiser, Percussion Competition at Seven Lakes High School in Katy (Performance Time is 2 pm), and Region Jazz Auditions. More details about all of these events will be communicated in next week’s Band Buzz.
We had planned an FBBC meeting for Thursday next week, but have decided to cancel it, since “in-person” meetings in the district are currently canceled. We decided that our regular business can wait until October, when we will either meet in-person or on Zoom depending on district policy.
