As a drum major of the Mars High School Marching Band, you must have a strong understanding of all aspects of the ensemble, both musically and visually. These students should be leaders among their peers, outstanding musicians, marchers, and most of all, a team player. Establishing respect and rapport with their staff and peers is something that needs to be established prior to becoming a drum major, not once the position is offered.

All potential applicants must be in grades 10-12 for the 2023-2024 school year and have participated in the marching band/colorguard for at least one year to be considered for a drum major position. Students from any grade level may attend the workshops, however, only those in grades 10-12 and at least one year of experience will be considered for a drum major position.

Drum Major Audition Requirements:

*All candidates must fill out this application before April 3rd.

*Each candidate will conduct the  Star Spangled Banner, the Alma Mater, and a musical excerpt that will be provided at the first workshop.

*Each candidate will be asked a handful of questions by the judging panel.

In addition to the requirements listed above, the candidates should also have demonstrated leadership skills, musicianship, and a personal responsibility throughout their past experiences within the program. Any past behaviors, both positive and negative, will be considered when making drum major selections.
